Curriculum

The curriculum at Northleigh CE Primary School has been specically developed to enable the children within our school community to flourish and prepare them for learning and life, through providing a breadth of opportunities and depth of understanding.

Our curriculum is based on developing the crucial characteristics to enable the children to Be Brave (children show challenge and take risks, Be Strong (Children are focussed, engaged and purposeful) and to Be Fearless (Children are curious, ask questions and challenge). Pupils are given opportunities to develop these skills in all aspects of the curriculum and school life.

Starting in Early Years our curriculum has been designed to build on skills and knowledge as a child progresses through the school.

In our Early Years classes, we follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years (DFE) and use the supporting materials from Development Matters in the EYFS (Early Education).

In Key Stage 1 and 2, we use the National Curriculum to support our planning.  Further details of each year group can be found in the year group summaries attached to this page.

At Northleigh CE Primary School all class teachers are responsible for providing a curriculum that is suitable for all pupils in the class, including those with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities (SEND) with support from the SENCo. We have high expectations for all pupils and are committed to ensuring our curriculum complies with the Equality Act 2010 and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014. Our inclusion statement emphasises the importance of providing an inclusive learning environment for all pupils including those with SEND. Additional information on this can be found in our SEND Information Report and our Equalities Policy:

Your Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)

We respect the choices of all families. Under UK law, parents and carers have the right to ask for their child to be withdrawn from some or all Religious Education (RE) lessons. You don’t need to give a reason, and we will always support your decision.

If you choose to withdraw your child, they will still be supervised in school during RE lessons. While we’re not required to provide alternative lessons, you’re welcome to share any work you’d like your child to do during this time.

If you’d like to discuss this or make a request, please contact the school office.
